10 on 10 Collaboration Project, Post 19

This month I decided to make my 10 on 10 a little different. One night I was trying to find writing inspiration prompts online because sometimes the best inspiration hits when you are doing some stream-of-conciousness writing. So as I was writing down some random phrases in my journal, I thought, “How fun would it be if I could translate these into photos?

So I wrote down some words and phrases and took my camera on a little street photography mission. And that’s when I realized how much street art is in LA, particularly murals. I walked around Hollywood one afternoon and stumbled across so many murals that were within block of each other. So, I started snapping. And I love how the grandness of scale of these murals contrast with the surroundings. I titled each image a mural with one of the phrases I wrote down in my journal.

Other photographers involved in the 10 on 10 project are:

Los Angeles Old Hollywood Wedding: Ashley + Bryan

Way back when Bryan and Ashley asked me to photograph their wedding, I already knew they were a cool couple (their engagement photos were taken in a tattoo parlor, after all). So I was really excited to photograph them in general because it gave me excuses to hang out with them.

But, I was really excited for their wedding day. First, the ceremony was sure to be as sweet as they are as a couple (sweet as in both the nice way and the dude! sweet! kind of way). Second, it was at a venue I had known about for a long time, but had never had the opportunity to see in person. A lot of photographers have shot the outside of it, but few get to photograph the inside of it. That’s because this venue was Katy Perry’s old house when she was married to Russell Brand, and now it is Bryan and Ashley’s friend Kendra’s house. Third, they were doing a sparkler send off.

So here are some photos from the day I shot Bryan and Ashley’s wedding at this gorgeous old Hollywood McMansion, on the longest day of the year, surrounded by some of the nicest group of people, celebrating. This must be how all those Disney Princesses feel like every day.

Tattoo Parlor and Record Shop Engagement Session: Bryan + Ashley

Sometimes a couple comes along and they have the best ideas for photo shoots. This was a really fun one.

When I plan engagement shoots, I always try and make sure we shoot something that the couple really loves to do. When I met Bryan and Ashley, and found out that Bryan was in a band, I suggested we shoot their engagement session at a record store here in LA. About a week before our planned shoot, Ashley mentioned that they wanted to get tattoos together and wondered if I could document that as part of the engagement session.  I, of course, thought this was a BRILLIANT idea. I had seen a few engagement sessions in record stores, but never had I seen one of a couple getting tattoos together.

We went to Origami Vinyl on Sunset then walked up the street to El Classico Tattoo. B+A decided to get the number 21 tattooed on their left hands, for the date of their wedding, June 21st. We also happened to shoot this on February 21st!

I seriously can’t wait to shoot their wedding this summer, on the night of the solstice.  If these photos are any indication, it will be a really awesome ceremony.

Good Morning, Hollywood!

Good morning!

Most mornings in Los Angeles are pretty perfect.  The weather is cool, the sun is out.  As difficult as it is pulling my lazy butt out of bed, it’s always worth it.

I brought the camera on our walk this morning.  Despite Olive’s hatred for walking anywhere that doesn’t end in the pet store, I managed to get some decent pictures in during the hour.  These, of course, snapped between the regular routine of telling Olive to sit several times.  My dog listens well, but only for brief spurts of time.  She will sit all of 2 seconds before something distracts her.

And then there’s the constant pulling in the direction of our home. The pulling specifically leads to the sun spot on the bed.  You know, the exact opposite of exercise and fresh air.

I watch The Dog Whisperer on a daily basis.  My dog cannot be whispered 99% of the time.

Luckily, the camera behaved itself.  I shot these with a Canon 7d on a 50mm 1.4 lens.
