10 on 10 : Happy Mother’s Day!

Hi All!

I’m so sorry this 10 on 10 is coming a day late. Looks like I have been slacking the last couple months! I apologize.

This month, in honor of Mother’s Day (which happened yesterday on the real 10 on 10 day!) I’m showing you 10 photos of awesome moms I had the privilege to photograph last month. It’s been busy!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms in the world.

10 on 10 April 2015 : Hearst Castle and Nitt Witt Ridge in Cambria, CA

So, some of you may have realized that I didn’t have a 10 on 10 last month! I’m sorry about that. But to make up for it, this month I’m giving you 20 photos from my recent trip to Hearst Castle. Anthony and I also stopped over to see Nitt Witt Ridge, a house that was built completely out of shells, beer cans, and other garbage. Both places were incredible to see and were a nice contrast to each other. If you ever find yourself in beautiful Cambria, make sure to see both of these spots.

Be sure to check out the other 10 on 10-ers this month:

10 on 10 Collaboration Project, Post 19

This month I decided to make my 10 on 10 a little different. One night I was trying to find writing inspiration prompts online because sometimes the best inspiration hits when you are doing some stream-of-conciousness writing. So as I was writing down some random phrases in my journal, I thought, “How fun would it be if I could translate these into photos?

So I wrote down some words and phrases and took my camera on a little street photography mission. And that’s when I realized how much street art is in LA, particularly murals. I walked around Hollywood one afternoon and stumbled across so many murals that were within block of each other. So, I started snapping. And I love how the grandness of scale of these murals contrast with the surroundings. I titled each image a mural with one of the phrases I wrote down in my journal.

10 on 10 Collaboration Project, Post 18

So, I was going to have a TOTALLY different post because I went to MAGIC CASTLE last night, but they unfortunately don’t allow photography inside the castle. It’s super top secret and totally exclusive and important and fun and I’m really sad I couldn’t take photos.

But worry not! I have some cute baby photos to make up for it.

Meet Katherine. I met her last month when she was less than a week old! She is the newest addition to the beautiful Goodwin family and she is settling in quite well. And, of course, Vivienne is as cute as ever!

Congrats, Goodwins!

Joshua Tree Wedding : Kirk + Nikka

Wow. What a way to end my wedding season.

Kirk and Nikka’s wedding does not need much of an introduction. Their love for each other is so apparent that it radiates from the pictures. These two had been together for ten years— they met while moving into their freshman dorm!

Nikka planned this day down to the T, which you can see in every detail included below. It’s amazing how much work went into this day. I had a really hard time narrowing down these pictures, which I was able to capture alongside my super talented boyfriend turned second shooter. I will definitely be employing him again because he did a great job and I really loved bossing him around.

Congratulations, Kirk and Nikka!

10 on 10 Collaboration Project, Post 17

November!

My cousin, Jessica, came into town last weekend with her boyfriend, Nick. Neither of them had ever been to LA before this, and they were only here for about 24 hours. I took them to some of my favorite LA staples, like the Santa Monica Pier, Amoeba Records, and the ultimate LA spot: the Griffith Observatory.

The Observatory for me epitomizes the best mix of the city: history, culture, and an amazing view. I love the Observatory– I love that you can spot it pretty much anywhere you are in the city. I love how you can always have a moment of solitude when you take in the view there, even when there are a ton of people there. I also love knowing how much I weigh on every planet. Science.

So, this month’s post focuses on my favorite LA landmark: the Griffith Observatory.

Santa Barbara’s Historic Courthouse Wedding : Amanda + Charley

Wow. That’s the only word that I could think of when I first walked into the Santa Barbara Courthouse. When Amanda and Charley asked me to photograph their wedding, I certainly was not expecting a courthouse to be this insanely beautiful. From the intricate tile to the ironwork to the breathtaking Mural Room where they had their ceremony, it was like a candy land as a photographer. There were too many beautiful places for photos in one building.

I also could not have been any luckier to have met these two. Their friends and family were so warm and welcoming, and I instantly felt comfortable shooting them. And not only were A+C a gorgeous couple, but Charley at one point came up to me and said, “I trust you, just do your thing.” Having creative freedom like that just added to how much fun I had photographing this day, and allowed me to create some images that I’m really happy with.

The reception was held later that evening at The Lark restaurant, where everyone celebrated over shared family-style courses, and danced well into the night.

Thank you so much for choosing me as your photographer, Amanda and Charley! I wish you both all the happiness in the world.

Walnut Grove Wedding in Moorpark | Shahna and Ryan | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer

Shahna and Ryan got married at this beautiful venue in Moorpark, and I was so happy to be there to photograph it. I’m pretty sure this day had one of the most epic sunsets of all time — and I don’t use the term “epic” lightly. The day went so smoothly, and I honestly have never had so much fun at a reception as I did that night. It was dance-off after dance-off, this group really knew how to party!

Special thanks to my wonderful second photographer Sara Panman who captured all the moments I missed– I am so grateful I had her talents there with me! All the little details came so perfectly together thanks to the styling talents of Julia Sir Wester (also the talented stylist for Oh Joy!). And of course, it all wouldn’t have gone so smoothly without the help of Mia Bella Weddings.

Thank you Shahna and Ryan for letting me be such a big part of your day!

10 on 10 Collaboration Project, Post 15

Somehow it’s September already and it’s so hot in LA I’m literally sweating just from sitting at my desk. So, in an attempt not to move too much, here’s this month’s 10-on-10 which features some new people I met last month– Erika and Rich‘s new babies Eloise and Berenger!

Eloise and Berenger Breitengross were born on August 10th, 2014. I met the twins when they were only 6 days old. I can’t even begin to describe how tiny and perfect they are. The photos can’t do it justice. If you ever get the chance to hold newborn twins at the same time, I highly recommend it. It’s terrifying, exhilarating, and wonderful all rolled into one amazing feeling.

Happy 1 month, E+B. You two are the bomb.

10 on 10 Collaboration Project, Post 14

Anthony and I went to one of many ghost towns in California yesterday, and I thought it would be perfect for this month’s 10-on-10. Mentryville was established when settlers struck oil there in the late 1800s. The last person to live in the town was the sole caretaker who was forced out after damage caused by the Northridge earthquake.

What is left now is a somewhat creepy, abandoned old-west style town with a very cool hike into the surrounding mountains, where an old boy scout camp called Johnson Park sits. I would love to do an engagement shoot here– who’s in?
