This month’s 10 on 10 is a little different, first I’d like to let you know that this project is officially going on year THREE! I’m so excited to be a part of it again. Here are this year’s amazingly talented 10 on 10 participants (and for my past 10 on 10’s, click here)
I’m including more than 10 photos for this post because it’s really special. One of my dearest friends got engaged and asked me to be her maid of honor. She told me she was a little conflicted because she also wanted me to shoot the wedding, but that doesn’t really work well when you’re IN the wedding, so we made a compromise: I would give her the most epic engagement shoot she could dream of. She and her fiancé, Robin, are getting married next year in Big Sur. (You may remember that I did the same thing for my friend Lindy a couple years ago when she asked me to be her bridesmaid. What is a better wedding gift? Nothing. That’s the answer.)
Kirsten and Robin got engaged in San Louis Obisbo. They both love the west coast, especially scenic Highway 1. So we decided that the best choice of an engagement session would be to take a weekend and road trip up the coast and stop in all their favorite spots, including Cold Spring Tavern in Santa Barbara for the best ti-tip sandwich ever, Scout Coffee in SLO, Morro Bay, Bixby Bridge, Cypress Grove near Monterey and Carmel, and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. And of course, no west coast road trip is complete without at least one stop at In N Out for a milkshake and some Animal Style fries!
I’m so excited to share these with you all! Granted, not everyone can have an engagement session that lasts all weekend, but if anyone is ever interested I am always down for something fun like this! Just contact me and we can go from there!

Anita and Daniel are getting married in South Korea. Anita asked me to take a few engagement photos of them before the nuptials, so we decided on Arroyo Seco Bridge in Pasadena and the park below it for the dramatic landscape. They brought their dog, Bailey, along to the shoot, because sometimes the photos don’t feel complete without the whole family there!
Congratulations, you two! It was so great meeting you!

Sometimes a couple comes along and they have the best ideas for photo shoots. This was a really fun one.
When I plan engagement shoots, I always try and make sure we shoot something that the couple really loves to do. When I met Bryan and Ashley, and found out that Bryan was in a band, I suggested we shoot their engagement session at a record store here in LA. About a week before our planned shoot, Ashley mentioned that they wanted to get tattoos together and wondered if I could document that as part of the engagement session. I, of course, thought this was a BRILLIANT idea. I had seen a few engagement sessions in record stores, but never had I seen one of a couple getting tattoos together.
We went to Origami Vinyl on Sunset then walked up the street to El Classico Tattoo. B+A decided to get the number 21 tattooed on their left hands, for the date of their wedding, June 21st. We also happened to shoot this on February 21st!
I seriously can’t wait to shoot their wedding this summer, on the night of the solstice. If these photos are any indication, it will be a really awesome ceremony.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I’m waiting until tomorrow to celebrate, mostly because someone has to help CVS clear out the discounted candy boxes.
Now onto the gooey love stuff:
Any wedding photographer would want to work with a couple like Shahna and Ryan. They are laid back, fun, and up for anything — even when that “anything” involves climbing uphill in nice clothes.
So maybe I should rephrase: Couples beware, as I might literally make you climb mountains for the perfect shot.
When I first met Shahna, we talked about what she and Ryan liked to do together. She mentioned wanting to take her engagement photos somewhere in nature, specifically a woodsy area since they love to go camping. The first place that came to mind was the small but scenic Cedar Grove in Griffith Park. We also decided to go to Ferndell Nature Trail, where I shot the Moonrise Kingdom shoot.
We had a great time (and a great workout!). Congrats you two, I can’t wait for the wedding in August!
PS that amazing Save the Date plaque was handmade by the lovely and talented Julia Wester.
