Austin the Golden Retriever

I love dogs.  Like, I really love dogs.  I love dogs more than I love most humans.  So whenever I get to photograph one, I go bananas.

Or in Austin the Golden Retriever’s case, we go chicken bologna.

I met up with Austin and his mom and dad the same day I shot Lindy and Jason’s engagement session.  It was such a fun end to the day, Austin ran around and played with his toys and showed off his tricks in exchange for some chicken bologna.  (Luckily, that stuff isn’t as fattening as the classic kind so Austin can watch his figure.)

On top of being really smart, cute and friendly, Austin is also a therapy dog which makes him a well-rounded badass.  (Read: I wish I could clone him.)

Don’t you want to just cuddle him right now? I know I do.

Lindy and Jason : A Savannah Engagement

Earlier in the month, I traveled across the country to Savannah, GA to photograph a wedding (that blog post is coming soon!).  While I was in town, I squeezed in two engagement shoots on top of the wedding because I’m an over-achiever and I could not bear to go a day without taking advantage of the awesome locations that Savannah has to offer.

Lindy, a good friend of mine who was one of my go-to models when I was studying photography at SCAD, got engaged to her best friend Jason back in March, so of course I demanded I take her engagement photos!  There was so much thought put into this shoot, I may as well have been doing a high production fashion shoot!

The three of us spent the entire day together and went all over town, from the beach to historic downtown.

We started at a delicious and beloved breakfast spot, The Breakfast Club.  Then we headed to Wormsloe Plantation, which you may recognize from this famous scene in Forrest Gump.

Afterwards we stopped by the Savannah Candy Kitchen for some sweet treats.  We discovered some unique locations in the gardens of the SCAD Museum of Art and I was able to see the amazing venue at Ships of the Sea Museum where their reception will take place next year.

THEN We stopped by Mabel’s Cupcake Emporium for some of the yummiest cupcakes ever and took our loot over to Forsyth Park for a picnic.

Phew!  It was a long day but I had an amazing time and I can’t wait to be a part of their wedding! It will be the party of the year! Congratulations, you two!

Palos Verdes Estates and Malaga Cove Engagement Session : Stacy + Aaron

Stacy and Aaron got engaged right before Christmas.  They chose Malaga Cove Library near their home in Redondo Beach for their engagement session.  It was a chilly, cloudy day, which didn’t look too great in person but made an ideal day to take pictures.  Malaga Cove is was such a fantastic location to shoot I may just bring everyone there from now on!

We explored around Malaga Cove and also took some pictures at their home with their adorable Poodle, Oggie.  (By the way– Doesn’t Oggie kinda look like he’s rockin’ Mr. T’s hair style?  That mohawk is hilarious!)

I had a great time photographing these two!  They were SO in cute together, constantly teasing each other and tickling and laughing a whole lot.  That made my job really easy.  There were so many great pictures of them that I had a very VERY difficult time narrowing down my favorites.

Thanks Aaron and Stacy for a fun day and congratulations on your engagement!

Big Kahuna Matata

Anthony and I went to Hawaii last month and I’m just now getting around to posting some pictures.  We stayed at Halemano on Maui, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.  The photos don’t really do this place justice.  If you ever get a chance to go to Hawaii, take the road to Hana in Maui to this little oasis.

Downtown LA + Disney Concert Hall Honeymoon Session : Paula and Carlos:

Newlyweds Paula and Carlos were visiting LA from Chile, and while they were in town they wanted a photo session to remember their stay.  I met Paula through a good friend and incredible photographer, Matei, after she contacted him a few weeks ago looking for an LA photographer.  Matei was out of the country while she was here, and he kindly referred her to me, because I’m cool and stuff, too.  Friends helping friends.

Paula and Carlos decided they wanted to take pictures somewhere with incredible architecture.  LA has a ton of stunning architecture, but no where quite compares to Disney Concert Hall in Downtown LA.  So that’s where we met.

You’ll be able to tell from the photos that these two are very much in love.  I hardly had to direct them at all– all those kisses, twirls, laughs and moments came naturally.  Paula and Carlos had a great sense of humor, too.  I asked them to kiss each other just once, and they said, “Now that we’re married, we don’t do that anymore.”  Hilarious!

Congratulations Paula and Carlos on tying the knot and thank you for meeting up with me to take these pictures.  I had so much fun!

CLB Meets A Real Housewife

In early November I got a phone call from a good friend who works for Star Magazine.  She needed a photographer to shoot their Thanksgiving spread with “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lisa Vanderpump.  I immediately said yes.  (Side note: I just wrote that like I was all cool about it and stuff but in reality I screamed YESYESYES into the phone before I even knew what the project was. It was the opposite of cool.)

Fast forward a week and I was shooting a Thanksgiving spread at Lisa’s restaurant Villa Blanca in Beverly Hills.  The meal came complete with turkey sliders, a bacon covered turkey, squash soup, and pumpkin crumble.  It took a lot of restraint not to eat it all the second it hit the table.  You can find these recipes and more on TheDivineAddiction.com!

Lisa and her husband Ken were super down to earth, funny, and really easy to work with.  Lisa is a natural in front of the camera, and very hands on when it came to presentation.  Villa Blanca lets in amazing natural lighting which led to clean, crisp pictures.  We even had a visit from a TMZ tour bus, where everyone was excited to see Ms. Vanderpump but even more excited to see adorable little Giggy, Lisa’s fashion forward Pomeranian.

Now that the magazine is off news stands I’m so happy that I am able to share the pictures with all of you!  So here are some of my favorites, along with the published spread.  I’m so thankful that I had this opportunity!  Thank you so much to Star Magazine, Lisa Vanderpump, Ken Todd, Giggy, Chef Francis Dimitrius, and everyone who had a hand in putting this spread together.  It was so much fun!

Aja and Dustin – Chinatown

Oh, how excited I was for this shoot.  The colors!  The architecture!  The beautiful couple!  When I got downtown in the morning on Saturday, I couldn’t have asked for a better location.  The sun was perfect and the Central Plaza was quiet.  Shooting early is definitely the way to go!

Aja and Dustin were willing to meet me bright and early, and they looked like supermodels.  I had a really great time meeting them and taking their pictures, it was so hard to decide on a final edit.  Between meeting me early and running on the platform of the subway to get “the shot,” they were more than great sports.

I’d like to also thank the Los Angeles Chinatown Business Council and Chinatown FilmBridge for allowing me to use Central Plaza for my pictures.

And a HUGE thank you to my beautiful models Aja and Dustin!

Good Morning, Hollywood!

Good morning!

Most mornings in Los Angeles are pretty perfect.  The weather is cool, the sun is out.  As difficult as it is pulling my lazy butt out of bed, it’s always worth it.

I brought the camera on our walk this morning.  Despite Olive’s hatred for walking anywhere that doesn’t end in the pet store, I managed to get some decent pictures in during the hour.  These, of course, snapped between the regular routine of telling Olive to sit several times.  My dog listens well, but only for brief spurts of time.  She will sit all of 2 seconds before something distracts her.

And then there’s the constant pulling in the direction of our home. The pulling specifically leads to the sun spot on the bed.  You know, the exact opposite of exercise and fresh air.

I watch The Dog Whisperer on a daily basis.  My dog cannot be whispered 99% of the time.

Luckily, the camera behaved itself.  I shot these with a Canon 7d on a 50mm 1.4 lens.
