A Plantation Wedding in Savannah with Kristen + Chris

On April 27th, Kristen and Chris got married on a beautiful plantation estate in Springfield, Georgia.  It was the perfect, intimate, casual, backyard wedding.  Kristen and her bridesmaids all wore handmade dresses, and Chris and his groomsmen all wore suspenders.  Everyone had a special part in this celebration, too. The bridal party even put together an awesome photobooth complete with wigs, toy guns, and crazy animal hats!

The entire day was filled with laughter, love, and happy tears.   I was so happy I could be a part of capturing the emotions that day.  I had a blast!  Congrats, Kristen and Chris!

Lindy and Jason : A Savannah Engagement

Earlier in the month, I traveled across the country to Savannah, GA to photograph a wedding (that blog post is coming soon!).  While I was in town, I squeezed in two engagement shoots on top of the wedding because I’m an over-achiever and I could not bear to go a day without taking advantage of the awesome locations that Savannah has to offer.

Lindy, a good friend of mine who was one of my go-to models when I was studying photography at SCAD, got engaged to her best friend Jason back in March, so of course I demanded I take her engagement photos!  There was so much thought put into this shoot, I may as well have been doing a high production fashion shoot!

The three of us spent the entire day together and went all over town, from the beach to historic downtown.

We started at a delicious and beloved breakfast spot, The Breakfast Club.  Then we headed to Wormsloe Plantation, which you may recognize from this famous scene in Forrest Gump.

Afterwards we stopped by the Savannah Candy Kitchen for some sweet treats.  We discovered some unique locations in the gardens of the SCAD Museum of Art and I was able to see the amazing venue at Ships of the Sea Museum where their reception will take place next year.

THEN We stopped by Mabel’s Cupcake Emporium for some of the yummiest cupcakes ever and took our loot over to Forsyth Park for a picnic.

Phew!  It was a long day but I had an amazing time and I can’t wait to be a part of their wedding! It will be the party of the year! Congratulations, you two!

Palos Verdes Estates and Malaga Cove Engagement Session : Stacy + Aaron

Stacy and Aaron got engaged right before Christmas.  They chose Malaga Cove Library near their home in Redondo Beach for their engagement session.  It was a chilly, cloudy day, which didn’t look too great in person but made an ideal day to take pictures.  Malaga Cove is was such a fantastic location to shoot I may just bring everyone there from now on!

We explored around Malaga Cove and also took some pictures at their home with their adorable Poodle, Oggie.  (By the way– Doesn’t Oggie kinda look like he’s rockin’ Mr. T’s hair style?  That mohawk is hilarious!)

I had a great time photographing these two!  They were SO in cute together, constantly teasing each other and tickling and laughing a whole lot.  That made my job really easy.  There were so many great pictures of them that I had a very VERY difficult time narrowing down my favorites.

Thanks Aaron and Stacy for a fun day and congratulations on your engagement!

Exciting Projects: Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie

Happy Hump Day, everyone!  Remember a few weeks ago when I mentioned that I was working on a few exciting illustration projects?  Here is one of them.  I teamed up with my main squeeze, Anthony, to create the opening sequence for Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, which will be touring the US and hitting select theaters starting this weekend.   Buy tickets for the movie + Q&A here and watch the clip of the opening below.

Snoochie Boochies and Snooch to the Nooch and all that.

Big Kahuna Matata

Anthony and I went to Hawaii last month and I’m just now getting around to posting some pictures.  We stayed at Halemano on Maui, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.  The photos don’t really do this place justice.  If you ever get a chance to go to Hawaii, take the road to Hana in Maui to this little oasis.

At Least I Can Always Get My Dog to Pose for Me

One thing I’m learning quickly as I build my business is plans can change.  I originally had three photoshoots planned for this weekend and one by one this week they all fell through.

Luckily, I still got to get in some good camera practice in with my dog, Olive.  She’s always willing to strike a pose.   That is, if I have something for her in return.

Behold, the power of bacon treats.

Back to the Drawing Board

It has been a very busy past month for me.  I left a time consuming, creativity wasting, soul draining full time job.  With that, I have had a large chunk of added free time to my schedule.  And now, ironically, I have been working harder than I have in four years.  In addition to taking baby pictures and planning some new shoots (one coming up this weekend!), I have redirected some focus on building my illustration portfolio.  I have a lot of exciting illustration things on the horizon that I can’t announce yet, but here are some illustrations I was particularly proud of from a pitch for a children’s book I did this week.

Unfortunately (for them!), I wasn’t the final artist chosen.  BUT the good news is I had the experience of drawing these awesome pictures of a cat and dog in a minimal amount of time, and now I can share them with all of you.  Otherwise they may not have seen the light for months, and that would just be sad.

The illustrations are pretty self explanatory, but the premise of the book was a day in the life for a weiner dog (“dachshund” is SO not as fun to say) and a fat orange cat.

Los Angeles Family / Newborn Session : Charlotte June

Last week I had the joy of photographing my friends Sarah and Chip and their beautiful two month old Charlotte June!  I couldn’t have asked for a better behaved baby.  At first she was very confused as to why this strange lady had a camera in her face, but it wasn’t long before she was hamming it up for the camera!  It was a beautiful sunny and warm day in LA, so after some nap time shots we took a walk to a nearby playground to finish out the photo shoot.

I’d like to thank Chip and Sarah for opening up their home to me and allowing me to climb all over their furniture and dress up little Charlotte in various outfits, baskets, blankets and buckets.  I had a blast!

Kern River Camping

There’s no better place to go to clear your mind than in nature.  It just so happened that my friends and I planned a camping trip just when I needed to clear my mind the most.  We picked a spot up in Kern County.  The weekend trip included a beautiful hike along the river and a relaxing afternoon soaking in a natural hot spring.

During the weekend, we saw a bald eagle, a low flying helicopter, and had perfect Spring-like weather (not bad for February!).  We even met a Native American man and his partner– I can only describe her as the human embodiment of Mother Nature.  We talked with them a while, they prayed and chanted to the North South East and West and were more in tune with nature than any of us were in our pinky toes.  As we left, they wished us, “Enjoy your journey.”  THANKS, MOTHER NATURE, WE WILL.

Here are some snaps from the weekend.  I was really enamored with the reflections in the river and the scenery of our campsite was just phenomenal.  And the rock that had my initials graffitied on it?  Priceless.
